Hong Kong Police

Marine Police have arrested two men and seized $8.5 million worth of smuggled goods at Sha Tau Kok and A Chau.

About 9pm yesterday, officers spotted a speedboat with cargo and four people aboard travelling from the shore off Shun Hing Street in Sha Tau Kok towards A Chau.

Officers then signaled the boat to stop but it sped to A Chau. The coxswain and three passengers unloaded the cargo, comprising about 40 boxes of laser heads and mobile phone components with an estimated value of $3 million, ashore at A Chau and returned to Shun Hing Street.

The four disembarked at Shun Hing Street and fled. Police later located a van, three trucks and a car on Shun Hing Street with a quantity of laser heads, mobile phone componenets, computer hard disks and electrical appliances worth about $5.5 million.

Two men aged 25 and 26 aboard one vehicle were arrested for exporting unmanifested cargo. They were released on bail pending further enquiries.
