District council chairman charged with fraud
*
ICAC

Tai Po District Council Chairman Cheng Chun-ping and his elder brother Cheng Chun-hung have been charged in connection with a $1.18 million fraud concerning the lease of a piece of government land.

The defendants were released on bail and will appear in Fanling Magistracy on June 12.

One of the charges alleges the defendants made a false representation between July 2000 and December 2002, claiming Cheng Chun-ping had the right to lease a piece of land in Tai Po to a garage operator, and inducing the operator to pay him a total of $765,000, as rentals for the said period.

They are also alleged of making another false representation between January 2003 and April 2005, claiming they had the right to lease the above piece of land to another garage operator, and inducing the operator to pay them a total of $420,000, as rentals for the said period.
