11 arrested, smuggled CDs seized

Marine Police have arrested 11 men and seized 636,000 optical discs and film negatives worth more than $12 million in an anti-smuggling operation near Waglan Island.

 

About 8.30pm yesterday officers spotted several suspicious vessels off Waglan Island and intercepted a speedboat. A total of 123 boxes with 123,000 optical discs and a small quantity of film negatives were found onboard.

 

Two Mainlanders, 25 and 43, were arrested for attempting to export unmanifested cargo.

 

Another Police launch intercepted a cargo vessel off Shek O, seizing 513,000 optical discs. Nine Hong Kong men, aged 20 to 27, were arrested for helping export unmanifested cargo.
