Policeman jailed 3 years for bribery, blackmail

*
ICAC

Senior Police Constable Yiu Shu-pui has been jailed three years for taking a $10,000 bribe and blackmail.

In sentencing today, Kowloon City Magistrate Adriana Tse said the seriousness of the offences warranted a heavy custodial sentence.

The court heard that on April 12 Yiu solicited $10,000 from a suspect in a deception case as reward for abstaining from taking appropriate action. He told the suspect to place the cash inside a metal container and put it in a recycle bin outside Ho Man Tin Police Quarters. Yiu then told a woman to pick up the container and threatened to prosecute her if she failed.
