Plumber jailed for bribery
*
ICAC

A licensed plumber has been jailed six months for bribing two Water Supplies Department officers to ensure his waterwork applications would be favourably handled.

Lai Ngok-sang, 45, was found guilty of two counts of offering an advantage to public servants in Tsuen Wan Magistracy today.

Magistrate Albert Wong said an immediate custodial sentence was imposed as bribing public servants was a very serious offence.

Lai was responsible for plumbing installations at two premises in Kwun Tong Road and Farm Road, Kowloon.

Prior to the connection of water supply to the premises, the department would provide water meters and carry out on-site inspections to ensure the plumbing installation works were in order.

To ensure his waterwork applications would be favourably handled, Lai offered $2,000 each to a Senior Waterworks Inspector and an Assistant Waterworks Inspector on two separate occasions in June last year.
