5-vehicle pileup kills 1, injures 4
*
Hong Kong Police

A 46-year-old man was killed and four other men injured in a five-vehicle pile-up on San Tin Highway in Yuen Long.

At about 5.40pm, three medium goods vehicles, including two with trailers, and a light goods vehicle were travelling along the highway towards Sheung Shui.

Near Fairview Park, the four vehicles slowed for prevailing traffic when another medium goods vehicle with a trailer rammed into the light goods vehicle, trapping it under the medium goods vehicle in front.

The 46-year-old driver of the light goods vehicle was certified dead at the scene. The drivers of the vehicles in front and behind and a passenger in each of the two vehicles were injured. The four, all men aged 36 to 54 years, were sent to North District Hospital for treatment.

The New Territories North special traffic investigation team is following up. Anyone who saw the accident or has information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers at 2675 3325.
