Woman dies in Eastern Tunnel accident

A 23-year-old woman was killed and a 20-year-old man was injured in a traffic acccident inside the Eastern Harbour Tunnel this morning.

 

At about 8.35am, the man was driving the motorcycle on which the woman was a passenger behind a car in the tunnel's right lane towards Hong Kong. The motorcycle driver reportedly lost control and crashed into the car, sending himself and the woman tumbling onto the ground.

 

A medium goods vehicle travelling behind in the left land struck the woman. Ambulancemen certified her dead at the scene.

 

The motorcyclist was sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment. 

 

Hong Kong Island's special traffic investigation team is following up. Anyone who saw the accident or has information to offer is urged to contact the officers on 3106 8849 or 3106 8800.
