A 46-year-old Macau man has been jailed four-and-a-half years by the District Court for using dishonoured cheques worth $14 million between December 1992 and January 1993.
The court heard he came to Hong Kong in the 1980s and operated a goldsmith shop in Western. During the period, he bought gold from five suppliers using post-dated cheques.
The cheques were dishonoured, the shop closed and he returned to Macau.
He was arrested on arrival back in Hong Kong last April.
