6 deny compensation swindle

*
ICAC

Six people have denied attempting to deceive the Urban Renewal Authority of $612,000 in compensation.

Chan Wai-kuen, 31, Au Mui, 55, Wong Pui-ning, 54, Lee Chi-keung, 55, and So Yau-chung, 49, each denied one count of attempted fraud in Kowloon City Magistracy today. Lam Chor-wah, 40, denied three similar charges.

Chan's case was adjourned to July 25, while the other five had their cases adjourned to July 19, for pre-trial review. They have all been released on bail of up to $50,000.

They allegedly posed as live-in tenants at a premises on Reclamation Street, an Urban Renewal Authority redevelopment project, with a view to making false compensation claims. The alleged offences occurred between October 18, 2002 and September 5, 2003.
