Unlicensed karaoke operator fined
*
Home Affairs Department

A woman has been fined $40,000 at Eastern Magistracy after pleading guilty to operating an unlicensed karaoke bar in Wan Chai.

Home Affairs Department officers, while inspecting a unit at Jaffe Road, Wan Chai in January, found a karaoke bar signboard on the ground floor of the building.

In the premises the team found a customer, among two parties, singing karaoke, and found audio-visual and karaoke devices.

The woman admitted under caution the premises had been operating as a karaoke bar for over three years, without holding a valid permit or license. She was charged for operating an unlicensed karaoke establishment.

The department said enforcement action will be taken against unlicensed karaoke bars to ensure the safety of patrons. People can report unlicensed karaoke bars by calling 2881 7498.
