Two fake handbag syndicates closed
*

Customs officers have closed two syndicates active in selling counterfeit brand name handbags to tourists in Li Yuen Street East and Li Yuen Street West.

On Monday, they seized about 4,000 counterfeit handbags, valued at about $500 million, and arrested three men and two women, aged 48 to 53.

The handbags seized in an outlet at Li Yuen Street West looked like genuine products and were sold at high prices. The syndicate claimed the counterfeit goods were from legitimate sources in Paris.

The syndicate operating at the hawker stall in Li Yuen Street East stored a small quantity of counterfeit handbags at a hidden corner as samples. Potential customers were directed to a nearby showroom to complete the transaction.
