Endangered: Ivory tusks seized from a container in Kwai Chung.

*

Customs officers have seized 503kgs of ivory tusks and 556kgs of sea turtle scales, worth about $700,000, from a container in Kwai Chung Customhouse.

The consignment, originating from Tanzania, was shipped to Hong Kong via Singapore declared as 175 bags of "dried fish maw". Officers found 70 bags of ivory tusks and 51 bags of turtle scales concealed inside the consignment.

Nobody has been arrested so far and the seizures were handed to the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department for follow-up investigation.
