Appointments

Six senior counsel appointed
*

Peter Clayton, Chan Chi-hung, Alexander King, Jason Pow, David Pilbrow and Ian McWalters have been appointed Senior Counsel, effective April 23.

 

The appointments are made by Chief Justice Andrew Li under section 31A of the Legal Practitioners Ordinance. Ceremonial proceedings will be held at 10am in Court No.7 in the High Court on April 23.

 

Biographies

Peter Clayton, 55, was called to the UK Bar in 1977 and worked for the Inland Revenue Solicitor's Office in London before coming to Hong Kong in 1981. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1982. His practice has been in the civil field, initially in general civil litigation and intellectual property matters, and later specialising in civil engineering and building disputes. He sits as an arbitrator.

 

Chan Chi-hung, 48, was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1984. His practice is in general civil litigation with an emphasis on probate-administration of estate, property-land, conveyancing, trust-equity, and companies. Mr Chan has served as a member of the committee for the hearing of certain legal aid appeals.

 

Alexander King, 52, was admitted to practice in New Zealand in 1976 and in the UK in 1978. He practised criminal law in the UK and served briefly as a Crown Prosecutor in New Zealand. He came to Hong Kong and was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1986. His practice has been in the criminal field encompassing both trials and appeals.

 

Jason Pow, 42, was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1986. He began his practice as a criminal barrister but his practice soon became predominantly civil. He developed his practice in the law of defamation while maintaining a general civil and commercial practice.

 

David Pilbrow, 57, received his legal education in the UK. Having qualified as a solicitor, Mr Pilbrow came to Hong Kong in 1973 and worked in the matrimonial field. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1989 and has specialised in the practice of family law since then.

 

Ian McWalters, 54, received his legal education in Australia. Mr McWalters was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2002. He had previously worked in the Papua New Guinea Public Solicitor's Office for five years and was appointed as a magistrate for five years. He took up appointment as a Crown Counsel in the Attorney General's Chambers in Hong Kong in 1985. He has served in the Prosecutions Division engaging in general prosecution work, advising other government departments.
