A former financial controller of a US-based electronic products manufacturer, convicted at the District Court of accepting $9.6 million in bribes, has been jailed three years and five months.

Grace Chan, 45, formerly employed by Honeywell, was found guilty of three counts of an agent accepting an advantage. She was also fined $30,000 and ordered by Judge Sweeney today to make a restitution of $3,000 to Honeywell.

The court heard that in mid-1994 Chan approached two partners of a design consultancy in relation to decoration works for Honeywell's Kowloon Bay offices. Chan solicited rebates from them, claiming she could facilitate payments for the contract, and promised to award to the design company another Honeywell contract.
