Customs seize $3.4m in counterfeit clothes
*
Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have seized about 50,000 items of counterfeit clothing, valued at $3.4 million, from a container. No arrests have been made so far.

During a cargo inspection operation at the River Trade Terminal in Tuen Mun yesterday, officers inspected a 40-foot container discharged from a vessel from Shantou, and found the counterfeit clothes.

The Customs & Excise Department believes the haul was destined for Thailand.

Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any person importing goods with false trade descriptions is liable to prosecution. The maximum penalty is a $500,000 fine and five years' imprisonment.
