Double jeopardy: The Kolcraft stroller model that failed to comply with safety checks.

Members of the public are urged to stop using a Kolcraft stroller - Item No. 73500-GP - which is suspected to be unsafe.

Customs & Excise Department said so far, there have been no reported accidents or injuries associated with the use of the Kolcraft stroller.

The Government laboratory confirmed that three samples of the Kolcraft strollers from a retail chain failed to comply with the statutory safety requirements on their structure and performance during a spot check.

The non-compliance included slippage of fastening straps and the restraint system, posing a high risk to children using the product.

In a recent operation, Customs officers seized 30 of these strollers from the company and issued a prohibition notice to prevent the company from selling the unsafe products for a period not exceeding six months.

The model in question is a side-by-side reclining umbrella stroller with two seats for use either as a bed or seats for twin babies.

The stroller had no shoulder straps, while its waist straps and adjusters could easily slip.

Under the Toys & Children's Products Safety Ordinance, it is an offence to supply, manufacture or import unsafe toys and children's products including strollers into Hong Kong.
