2 electors charged for voting offences
*

Two registered electors have been charged by the ICAC for alleged voting offences in their Sok Kwu Wan, Lamma Island, constituency.

Electors in the 2003 Village Representative Elections, Lai Wai-fung, 58, and Lai Yau-fat, 39, each face one count of engaging in corrupt conduct in voting at an election.

The defendants, on ICAC bail, will appear in Eastern Magistracy tomorrow.

The defendants allegedly voted in the election on July 19 after giving information to an electoral officer that they knew to be materially false.

* Meanwhile, two former Salvation Army staff have been convicted of stealing clothes from collection points and selling them to second-hand dealers for profit.

Former Salvation Army assistant supervisor Lai Fong-tak and his former assistant Chong Wing-chee, both 39, were found guilty on a joint charge of conspiracy to handle stolen goods.

The court adjourned sentencing to September 23, pending the defendants' probation and community service order reports. The defendants were each granted cash bail.
