Restricted-zone relaxation extended
*
Transport Department

The Transport Department has extended the relaxation of peak-hour clearways and 7am-to-7pm clearways for taxis, on roads with speed limits less than 70kph, to January 31.

It allows taxis to pick up and drop off passengers in stopping-restricted zones. However, they cannot wait for passengers in these zones.

The measure has not caused any major traffic congestion or obstruction since it launched in May 2003, allowing taxis to provide a point-to-point service to passengers.

As existing restricted-zone permits for taxis will expire January 31, taxi owners and drivers should have them renewed at the department's special counters at 14 designated LPG stations from noon to 6pm, January 27 to 29.

Permit renewal services will also be available at the department's four licensing offices from January 27. Call 1823 for enquiries.
