Secretary for Development Carrie Lam says she is willing to try every means to engage the public in the urban renewal strategy review.
Speaking to reporters after a radio programme on urban renewal today, Mrs Lam said the talk show is one of the many measures being taken to engage the public.
She said the review of urban renewal strategy started in July 2008 and the Government has adopted many means to engage the public, such as public forums, focus groups, roving exhibitions, opinion surveys, and web-based discussions.
"So we feel we have tried most of the means to engage the public but somehow up to now, it doesn't seem to be a very heated, a very topical discussion in society. That is why on the advice of some of my members in the steering committee, I decided perhaps if I could come to talk directly to members of the public through this radio program, we will be able to get more views to help our further stage of work."
Noting the Urban Renewal Authority has launched redevelopment projects at a rather slow pace in previous years, Mrs Lam said the review will identify a new approach and direction for urban renewal work.
