Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Frederick Ma says the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer plans to provide geo-spatial information services to the public through GovHK supported by a geo-spatial information hub.
Mr Ma today told lawmakers that the services will provide information on walks and trails, mobile-network coverage in country parks, and locations of government offices, schools, libraries, leisure, cultural and sports facilities, and hospitals.
The types and availability of information will be reviewed from time to time based on user feedback and in consultation with the information providers.
The secretary said the Government has examined the experience of the Mainland and overseas countries in the development of spatial data infrastructure, adding the Development Bureau is conducting the Data Alignment Measures Project to facilitate spatial data exchanges in the planning, lands and public works areas.
Mr Ma noted the Government already provides audio-guided service to the public at two major museums. With the introduction of the GovWiFi programme, it will explore the use of the Wi-Fi hotspots and, where applicable, positioning technologies, in government premises to provide electronic guided-tour services.
