Sha Tin hotel development gets land boost
*

Hotel development in Sha Tin is set to become more flexible as industrial land in Siu Lek Yuen has been zoned 'industrial area' with 'hotel' use.

The Town Planning Board today announced that the Chief Executive in Council has approved the draft Sha Tin outline zoning plan which provides a statutory land use planning framework to guide the area's development and redevelopment.

With a planning area of about 2,777 hectares, a large portion of land is zoned 'residential area'. To meet the indigenous villagers' demand for small houses, 190.4 hectares has been zoned 'Village Type Development'.

To serve the needs of the local and district population, 295.7 hectares is zoned 'Government, Institution or Community'. A total of 259 hectares is zoned 'Open Space' for active and passive recreational use.

About 982.9 hectares is zoned 'Green Belt' to define the limits of urban and sub-urban development areas by natural features and to contain urban sprawl as well as to provide passive recreational outlets.

Copies of the approved plan are available for sale at the Map Publications Centres in North Point and Yau Ma Tei. The electronic version of the plan can be viewed on the board's website.
