Airport passengers hit record high

*
Hong Kong International Airport
On the rise: Cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport has grown 12.4%.

A record high 3.79 million passengers used Hong Kong International Airport in July, up 10.3% on the same month last year.

The Airport Authority today attributed the rise to more people taking summer holidays and increased visitor and transfer traffic, especially on Mainland, Taiwan and Australiasian routes.

Cargo throughput rose 12.4%, reaching 289,000 tonnes, due to strong demand from the US and Europe.

July also set a new monthly record for aircraft movements, due to robust passenger growth. There were 22,655 take-offs and landings, up 11%.

Over a rolling 12-month period, passenger throughput reached 39.586 million. Cargo tonnage and aircraft movements for the past 12 months amounted to 3.270 million and 250,355.
