Draft anti-spam law ready this year

*
John Tsang

Anti-spammer: Launching the Anti-Spam Roving Exhibition, Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology John Tsang.

*

A draft anti-spam legislation will be ready for public consultation by the end of this year, Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology John Tsang says.

Launching the Anti-Spam Roving Exhibition today, Mr Tsang said education is the most effective means to combat spam. Apart from radio programmes, exhibitions and publicity materials, a dedicated anti-spam website has been set up and revamped with richer content.

Seminars and workshops will be run jointly with business associations on the importance of information security and ways to tackle spamming. They will be reminded on how they can avoid becoming spammers themselves.

Mr Tsang hopes such activities can raise public awareness of the spam problem.

The Anti-Spam Roving Exhibition is being staged at Times Square in Causeway Bay until August 14. It will be moved to Tuen Mun Town Plaza between August 23 to 25, and Hollywood Plaza in Diamond Hill September 17 to 19.
