Airport power system to be upgraded

*
airport authority .jpg

To meet rising customer expectations and to consolidate Hong Kong's status as a premier regional aviation hub, the Airport Authority will upgrade Chek Lap Kok's power system in the next 12 months.

The upgrades will include the enhancement of the airport's Power Supply Control System, the re-zoning of the three-zone power distribution system with inter-leaving of wiring inside the passenger terminal, reconfiguring the air-conditioning chiller system, and the installation of an additional emergency generator.

With these improvements, airport operations could be carried out at all zones in the terminal building at times of power disruption. Air-conditioning will not be cut off during a power disruption, and indoor temperatures will be maintained at 26 degrees Celsius when city power supplies are discontinued.

The enhancements are recommendations of a comprehensive review into the airport's power distribution system and emergency generator, following a power disruption at the terminal building in June.

Until completion of the works, the authority will step up its contingency management measures so any impact to airport users is minimised at times of system hiccups.
