Q2 transport complaints up 10.6%

The Transport Complaints Unit received 3,915 submissions in second quarter, up 10.6% on the previous quarter. The major areas of complaint and suggestions related to public transport services (70%), enforcement matters (14%) and traffic conditions (10%).

 

The number of complaints and suggestions on transport services rose 11.3% to 2,739, while submissions on franchised bus and public light bus services rose from 732 to 774 and from 498 to 574.

 

Cases related to taxi and rail services rose from 1,142 to 1,285 and from 68 to 88, while those for ferry services fell from 10 to nine. Submissions on traffic conditions, road maintenance and illegal parking and other enforcement matters rose from 365 to 395, from 88 to 121 and from 537 to 563.

 

The unit has referred all submissions to the relevant Government departments for follow-up action.

 

During the period under review, investigations into 3,649 cases were completed. Of these, 2,473 cases (68%) were found to be substantiated, 250 cases (7%) unsubstantiated, and 926 cases (25%) were not pursuable due to insufficient evidence.

 

For the substantiated cases, the relevant Government departments and transport operators have either taken steps to rectify the situation or are considering possible solutions to the problems identified.
