A new submarine cable system from Lantau to Cheung Chau will improve the reliabilty of Cheung Chau's electricity supply.
The Government plans to install three 132 kV submarine cable circuits from Tai Long Wan in Chi Ma Wan Peninsula to Cheung Chau.
The proposed works will include temporary filling of the foreshore and seabed in the east of Tai Long Wan as a temporary working platform for the construction of a cable tunnel between Pui O Wan and Tai Long Wan.
The works are scheduled to start this month for completion by mid-2006. An area of about 143 hectares of foreshore and seabed between Tai Long Wan and Cheung Chau will be affected.
Meanwhile, the Government plans to construct a slipway in Tai O to allow the Fire Services Department to launch its speed boats and amphibious vehicles in the creek at Tai O to conduct fire fighting and rescue operations.
The proposed works - dredging, filling, levelling and concreting over an area of about 150 square metres of foreshore and seabed at the northeast of Lung Tin Estate - are scheduled to start late this year and should be finished by mid-2004.
Two notices outlining the affected area were published in the Government Gazette today (August 8).
Those who think they may be affected by the works can send a written claim for compensation to the Director of Lands, 20/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road by August 8, 2004 and October 8, 2003 respectively.
The notices and plans are available for public inspection at the Lands Department's Survey and Mapping Office, 23/F, North Point Government Offices; and the Islands District Office, 20/F, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central.
