Centre for Health Protection

The Ministry of Health has today notified the Centre for Health Protection of another confirmed case of avian influenza H5N1, in Guizhou Province.

The patient is a 29-year-old man living in Guiyang. He developed symptoms on January 15 and was admitted to hospital for treatment. He is in critical condition. He had a history of exposure to a live poultry market before the onset of symptoms.

Chinese Centre for Diseases Control & Prevention tests showed he was positive for H5N1.

The centre is in close liaison with the ministry to learn more about the case.

People are reminded to take precautions against the spread of bird flu. For more information, visit the centre's website.
