Welfare chief comforts the homeless

*

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung visited homeless people in Sham Shui Po and Tsim Sha Tsui tonight and encouraged them to seek help for their problems.

He first visited a Christian Concern for the Homeless Association activity centre and hostel in Sham Shui Po. He chatted with hostel residents to understand their situation and told them how the Government can help.

"The Government is very concerned about the homeless," he said. "The Integrated Family Service Centres and Integrated Services Centres of the Social Welfare Department and non-governmental organisations provide outreach, counselling, financial and accommodation assistance, referral for treatment and other support services."

He spoke to homeless people nearby and distributed gift packs. He then went to Tsim Sha Tsui to visit homeless people near the Cultural Centre.
