45 ill in respiratory infection outbreaks

Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infection in a Kwun Tong elderly home and a residential care home for the disabled in Kwai Chung, affecting 45 people.

 

Fifteen residents and eight staff of the elderly home, comprising eight men and 15 women aged 29 to 94, developed symptoms December 1 to January 4. Fifteen sought medical attention and required no hospitalisation. All are stable.

 

Twenty-two residents of the residential home, comprising 13 men and nine women aged 25 to 57, developed symptoms December 27 to January 4. All consulted doctors and none required hospitalisation. All are stable.

 

The centre's officials have visited the institutions and provided health advice.
