Hand-foot-mouth disease alert issued after outbreak

*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection reminds people to maintain personal and environmental hygiene to prevent hand-foot-mouth disease following an outbreak in a Kwun Tong primary school involving 20 students.

The affected children, aged six to 11, came from 10 different classes. They developed fever, mouth ulcers and a rash over their hands or feet starting from October 25.

Eighteen of them consulted private doctors or sought treatment at general out-patient clinics while one went to United Christian Hospital. They are in stable condition.

Another child was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital and has been discharged.

Centre staff have paid site visits to the school and provided health advice to management.

To prevent the disease people should observe good hygiene practices. More health tips are available here, or call 2833 0111.
