Masks not needed for class resumption

*
HPC logo (Eng version)

Primary school children will not need to wear surgical masks when classes resume on March 31.

Issuing anti-flu tips for schools and parents today, the Centre for Health Protection said students will not need to wear masks if there is no flu outbreak at their school.

Primary school classes recessed early for the Easter holiday on March 13 after flu outbreaks were reported in several schools.

Students and teachers with no symptoms are not required to wear masks when classes resume. However, schools are advised to provide students with masks if they develop symptoms while at school. Sick students should be kept in an isolation room and their parents contacted.

Staff should wear masks and wash their hands before and after contact with sick students. Schools should report suspected flu outbreaks for follow-up action by the centre.
