The Department of Health has urged people not to consume anti-impotence products from unknown and unclear sources.
The plea comes after another man was sent to public hospitals recently after complications with the products.
The 49-year-old man was found collapsed on April 7. Sildenafil and glibenclamide metabolites were found in his urine. He admitted taking drugs for erectile dysfunction.
Glibenclamide can cause nausea and gastrointestinal problems. Improper use can cause a significant fall in blood sugar causing serious health problems and even death.
The side effects of sildenafil include low blood pressure, headache, vomiting, dizziness and transient vision disturbances. It can interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs and lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.
Meanwhile, Singapore's Health Science Authority issued a warning today saying virility product Power I Walnut contained glibenclamide and sildenafil. In Hong Kong the product is not a registered pharmaceutical.
People who possess similar products should dispose of them. For enquiries call 2572 2068.
