Influenza advisory issued

*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection reminds the public to maintain good personal and environmental hygiene after the detection of four reports of influenza-like illness outbreaks in kindergartens and primary schools in recent weeks.

The affected include 51 males and 37 females aged three to 42. Their symptoms were generally mild and most have recovered.

Laboratory tests of the samples taken from two affected children from kindergartens in Yuen Long and Tuen Mun showed positive results for influenza-B.

The centre's staff have visited these institutions in Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and Yau Tong and provided health advice.

It sent letters to all institutions again today reminding them of the importance of taking preventive measures against seasonal influenza.

There have been 13 confirmed cases of influenza in institutions so far this year. Last year's figure was 163.
