20 students treated for flu-like illness

Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an influenza-like illness outbreak affecting 20 Ma On Shan primary school students.

Since February 24, the nine boys and 11 girls aged six to eight have come down with fever, cough and sore throats. Fifteen of them consulted private doctors or out-patient clinics. All of them are in stable condition and none of them required hospitalisation.

Staff from the centre visited the school and provided health instructions to the staff.

The public and management of institutions must take preventive measures against the disease by observing strict environmental and personal hygiene. Those with symptoms of respiratory tract infection should wear face masks and seek medical advice promptly.

More tips about influenza and its prevention can be found here.
