Warning issued on contaminated pear juice
*

The Centre for Food Safety has asked retailers not to sell two types of pear juice for toddlers due to possible arsenic contamination. It advises consumers not to drink the affected batches.

The affected products are President's Choice Organics Pear Juice from Concentrate for Toddlers (one litre) with a universal product code of '0 60383 70935 8', and Beech Nut Pear Juice from Concentrate with Vitamin C added (128ml) with a product code of '0 523842 8' and lot codes of '2009 FE 02' and ' A0384B0935'.

The centre made the appeal following a warning issued by Canadian authorities.

Arsenic is a toxic heavy metal which can cause cancer and pose developmental risks to children.
