HK cyclist Wong takes BMX gold
*

Hong Kong cyclist Steven Wong has won a BMX gold medal in the 6th National Cities Games of the People's Republic of China.

Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Carrie Yau awarded the cyclist and 27 other local athletes their certificates of merit today.

Steven Wong - together with swimming, cycling, tennis, judo, table tennis and athletics quarter-finalists, and those who broke Hong Kong records or their personal bests -were congratulated at a ceremony at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to welcome them home.

Officiating at the ceremony, Mrs Yau said Hong Kong athletes would face more challenges at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong.

Other officiating guests included President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong Timothy Fok, and Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Thomas Chow.

A total of 107 Hong Kong athletes took part in 15 events in the 6th National Cities Games, which ended on November 3 in Wuhan.
