36 ill in gastroenteritis outbreak
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed a gastroenteritis outbreak in a Yuen Long elderly home, affecting 30 residents and six staff members.

The six men and 30 women, aged 40 to 98, came down with diarrhoea and vomiting between February 5 and 11. Three were admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital. All are in stable condition.

Two stool samples have tested positive for norovirus, a common cause of viral gastroenteritis.

The centre will closely monitor the home.

For more information on the disease, click here, or call the Central Health Education Hotline on 2833 0111.
