New products and services tailor-made to meet the needs of the elderly are being showcased at the two-day Silver Hair Market Fair Exhibition at the Science Museum to help the elderly lead an active life.
Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr York Chow said the exhibition, jointly run by the bureau and the Elderly Commission, also provides a platform for business sectors to promote the concept of an elderly consumer market.
Opening the show today, Dr Chow said Hong Kong's elderly have surpassed those of the previous generations in terms of education, wealth and health and have higher quality of life expectations. This has created a huge consumer market and business opportunities.
Win-win situation
Elderly Commission Chairman Dr Leong Che-hung said the exhibition brings a win-win situation for both the elderly and business sector. It can introduce to the elderly products or services that may be suitable for them. It can also encourage and promote business opportunities in the "silver hair" market.
The two-day exhibition is open to public until 6pm today and 10am to 6pm tomorrow. A total of 19 exhibitors will showcase new products and services suitable for the elderly around the themes of clothing, eating, living and mobility.
A seminar was also held today to explore how to help the elderly at home. Titled Ageing in the Community, the seminar featured experts from Australia, the UK and Sweden as speakers and was attended by over 120 key personnel from the local elderly service sector, professionals, academics and experts.
