Groups hailed for helping disabled land jobs
*

Fifty-seven private and public organisations have been recognised at the Support the Employment of People with Disabilities Award Presentation Ceremony 2006.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of Social Welfare Paul Tang hailed the awardees' contribution which has brought great encouragement to the people in the rehabilitation field.

Mr Tang encouraged people in the community, business sector and non-governmental organisations to team up to help disabled people be more self-reliant and integrate into society by providing more training and employment opportunities for them.

Six categories of awards were presented to 57 organisations at today's ceremony. For a list of awardees, click here.

To showcase the disabled's working capabilities, a "Parade of Quality Services & Products" was held after the ceremony. Twenty rehabilitation organisations displayed the disabled's diverse products and services.

Recently, the department joined forces with the Joint Council for People with Disabilities and the Council of Social Service to publish a set of special reports called Casebook on Social Enterprises in Rehabilitation and Social Enterprise in Rehabilitation.

The reports introduce the development of social enterprises in the rehabilitation field.
