CE visits Kowloon City

Chief Executive Donald Tsang inspected elderly centres, arts facilities, and met locals and consumers during his visit to Kowloon City today.

He first visited an elderly day-care centre and the District Elderly Community Centre at TWGHs Wong Cho Tong Social Service Building. He joined a group of seniors in a karaoke session, and attended paper folding and exercise classes with them, before holding a discussion on their needs.

"It is the responsibility of each family to take care of their senior members. We must respect and care for the elderly of other families as we respect and care for those in our own family, and see to it that such a fine tradition is carried forward throughout the community," Mr Tsang said.

Out and about: Chief Executive Donald Tsang visits the Cattle Depot Artist Village, exchanges views with artists, and chats with locals in Kowloon City.

He then inspected the Cattle Depot Artist Village, which has been marked as a base for promoting culture and arts activities. The former cattle inspection and control point has been redeveloped and converted into an artists' workshop since its closure in 1999.

Mr Tsang watched a rehearsal by a youth theatre company and exchanged views on arts education and development with cultural bodies. He said the Government will endeavour to promote culture and the arts.

He later visited residents and shop proprietors on Hau Wong and Lion Rock Roads, and chatted with customers at a Nga Tsin Wai Road restaurant.
