The total social-security caseload in July stood at 296,568, down 48 cases over a month earlier, the Social Welfare Department says. The overall caseload involved 534,495 recipients.

 

Jobless cases showed a continued month-on-month decrease of 0.9% in July, to 39,175. However, single-parent cases registered a month-on-month rise of 0.1%, to 39,257. Low-earning cases also rose 0.4% in July over a month earlier, to 18,438.

 

Total government spending on social-security payments for 2004-05 was $17.6 billion.
