2 proprietary Chinese medicines recalled

 

Consumers are advised not to buy or take proprietary Chinese medicines Chuifong Toukuwan and Nan Lien Chuifong Toukuwan, which contain a Western drug ingredient that can cause side-effects.

 

Those who have purchased the products should immediately stop using them and seek medical advice if they feel unwell.

Drug recall: Chuifong Toukuwan and Nan Lien Chuifong Toukuwan contain a Western drug ingredient that can cause side-effects.

The distributors of the products have been told to recall and surrender them to the Department of Health.

 

The products were found to contain painkiller diclofenac. Its side-effects are gastro-intestinal disturbances including pain, nausea, vomiting, peptic ulcers and bleeding.

 

Under the Pharmacy & Poisons Ordinance, products containing this drug can only be sold on a doctor's prescription and supervision by a pharmacist.
