Taskforce proposed for fish checks

*

An interdepartmental taskforce should be formed to investigate why there have been 76 cases of Mainland freshwater fish being imported unattested with health certificates since January.

The suggestion was tabled at an interdepartmental meeting chaired by the Permanent Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Carrie Yau today.

Departments will investigate the matter with a view to enhancing communication. The taskforce would be formed at the operational level to ensure concerted action against unloading of freshwater fish without health certificates.

In the meantime, both the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation and Food & Environmental Hygiene Departments have made arrangements to deal with consignments landing in wholesale markets without proper documentation. Action may involve Police.
