HPC logo (Eng version)

A 43-year-old man infected with Streptococcus suis has died. The Quarry Bay man had no recent travel history and came down with fever, chills and diarrhoea on October 12. He was admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital the following day, and died soon after.

The Centre for Health Protection today confirmed he had the infection, the year's twelfth case. His family members are under medical surveillance.

Streptococcus can be treated with antibiotics. For more information click here or call the 24-hour Health Education Hotline 2833 0111. For the latest information on the infectious disease situation overseas click here.
