Meat traders disciplined for 'irregularities'

*
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has issued four summonses, two written warnings and 71 verbal warnings to meat traders over "irregularities".

Officers inspected 800 frozen meat retail outlets to scrutinise hygiene conditions and meat sources. They reminded traders to properly handle and store meat.

The department has also enhanced inspection and quarantine work at the points of entry for imported live pigs and pork from the Mainland. Every lorry carrying frozen pork will be inspected and tested for veterinary drug residues, while samples taken from live pigs for similar tests will increase 20%.
