Streptococcus infection confirmed
*
HPC logo (Eng version)

The Centre for Health Protection has received a report of Streptococcus suis infection involving a 26-year-old man, bringing the total number of infections to 10 since May 2004.

The Tin Shui Wai man developed fever and some joint pain on July 5 and admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital, and discharged July 12. His home contacts have no symptoms.

He has no recent travel history and has not visited farms or been in contact with pigs.

People are advised to always observe personal and environmental hygiene and avoid contact with pigs. If contact with pigs or raw pork is necessary:

* use protective gloves;

* wash hands after handling; and,

* clean and cover all wounds.

Click here or visit the Travellers' Health Service website for more information on Streptococcus suis.
