Anti-mosquito measures have been stepped up to ensure clean and tidy environments for people to enjoy their leisure time at Leisure & Cultural Services Department venues.
From January last year to April this year, the department mounted 10,198 weekly anti-mosquito operations and 14,322 weekly cleansing operations. There are 193 mosquito trapping devices installed in 122 venues, including Hong Kong Park, Kowloon Park, the Zoological & Botanical Gardens and Victoria Park. Special attention has also been extended to the venues' adjoining areas.
In view of the recent findings that adult mosquito specimens of Culex traitaeniorhynchus were collected from mosquito trapping devices in some parks, the department mounted a special city-wide crackdown today to remove potential mosquito breeding grounds in its venues
About 1,900 venue staff and contractors' workers took part in today's operation to clear stagnant water, fill tree holes and bamboo stumps, spray larvicidal oil, and clear refuse and plant debris.
The department appealed to venue users to keep places clean, adding stringent law enforcement action will also be taken against littering offenders.
