Over 90% Vioxx recalled
*

More than 90% of a new class of analgesic-antirheumatic drug Vioxx has been recalled by the drug company, the Department of Health says.

It will send letters to doctors today drawing their attention to the recall and reminding them to return the remaining stock of the drug.

The department said it is satisfied with the company's prompt action to notify all doctors, hospitals and dispensaries of the recall.

It will also review the monitoring of company-initiated recalls with particular reference to the need to improve communication with healthcare professionals.

Patients who have been using the drug are advised to consult their doctors.
