The Department of Health advises consumers avoid health product Golden Gun, which contains western drug ingredient Tadalafil. The importer has been ordered to recall the product within seven days and surrender it.
Tadalafil is used to treat impotence. It is a prescription drug and doctors must supervise its use as it can cause side effects like headache and upset stomach, and serious hypotension among people with heart disease.
The department advises those who have purchased the product to stop using it and dispose of it. For recall enquiries, call the importer's hotline 2723 3796. For health enquiries, call the department's hotline 2319 2839.
Items containing western medicine are pharmaceutical products and must be registered under the Pharmacy & Poisons Ordinance before they can be sold. Golden Gun has not been registered.
The department reminds importers and retailers that possession and sale of unregistered pharmaceutical products is an offence liable to a maximum penalty of a $100,000 fine and two years' prison.
