3 Kowloon Park pools closed

Kowloon Park's main, secondary swimming and diving pools have been closed for filtration system inspection. All its outdoor pools will remain open.

The closure is to find the source of red worms seen in the indoor pool.

Assistant Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Paul Cheung said that the decision was a conscious one made after an inter-departmental meeting held late last night.

Repeat checks, including another one conducted overnight yesterday, of the sterilisation and filtration systems confirmed that both systems operated normal.

Water samples taken for bacteriological tests proved that the pool water is up to standard and suitable for swimming.

"We have tried all ways but cannot find out the cause of the appearance of some red worms in the indoor main and secondary pools. We therefore decide to drain away the water to carry out a detailed inspection of the sand trap and the filtration system," he said.

Thorough sterilisation will also be conducted before it is re-filled with fresh water. The process will take about 10 days.

While pool water with the presence of a few "red worms" should not be harmful to human beings, people can enquire for details by using the Health Department hotline 2575 1221.
